Casco Viejo, Panama

Lonely Planet Panama 4th Edition –

The sister hostel to Mondo Taitu, Heike proudly serves as the yin to Mondo’s yang. Awash with colorfully painted murals and natural woods, Heike is the perfect spot for chilling out and soaking up the Caribbean ambience. The upstairs balcony overlooks the town’s park and is a perfect spot to indulge in a cold beer and a good book…the amenities at Heike are perfectly suited to backpackers. .

Moon Guide Panama 2nd Edition –

The very popular Hostel Heike (Calle 3 just west of the park) is no longer actually owned by Heike. The new owners are a trio of guys from the San Francisco Bay Area who have a knack for giving the backpacker set exactly what it wants…there are shared hot water bathrooms. Rooms are basic but cheerful – they’re brightly painted, designed to let light in, and feature lots of pretty wood. Beds in any of the dorms cost $10 per person with fan, $12 per person with air conditioning. There’s a mirador on the top floor strung with hammocks.

Footprint Mexico and Central America Handbook –
